Veneers: Your Questions Answered

Posted .

What are veneers?
Veneers are thin, custom-made, tooth-colored shells that are attached to the front of the teeth to improve their appearance. In most cases, veneers are irreversible because the front of the teeth are shaped to allow room for the veneers.

When are veneers used?
Veneers are used to cover cosmetic imperfections in the teeth. For instance, chips, cracks, stains, slightly crooked teeth and gapped teeth can be camouflaged with veneers. Veneers are a less-invasive way to correct these issues than dental crowns or braces.

Am I a good candidate?
If you are interested in having veneers placed, our dentists will examine your teeth and determine if veneers are the best way to reach your smile goals and dreams.

How are veneers placed?
A small amount of enamel is removed from the front surfaces of the teeth to receive veneers. Impressions of the teeth are then made so that your veneers can be custom made. Once your veneers are ready, the fit will be checked, any necessary adjustments will be made, and they will be bonded to the front of the teeth.

How do I care for my veneers?
It may come as a surprise that veneers do not require any special care. Simply brush and floss as you would your natural teeth and visit Louisiana Dental Center at least twice a year for routine dental appointments. You may want to limit staining foods and beverages, like coffee. Also, keep in mind that your veneers will eventually need to be replaced by our dentists.
